Hope RX40 Pro 5 | Premium Carbon Gravel Performance

The Hope RX40 is the newly released gravel-specific evolution of their carbon wheel line. While it shares the same 40mm depth as the road-focused RD40, it features a significantly wider, hookless rim profile designed to handle wider gravel tyres and more aggressive off-road terrain.

The RX40 is specifically engineered for the "go-anywhere" gravel crowd. The standout upgrade is the 25.5mm internal width, which is 30% wider than the RD40. This allows for superior support of high-volume tyres up to 60mm, reducing tyre squirm and allowing for ultra-low pressures to increase grip and comfort on technical trails.

Hand-built in Barnoldswick, UK, it uses the high-performance Pro 5 hubs and is designed to be Hope's "ultimate" high-end gravel wheelset

The RX40 vs. RD40 Decision

Tyre Choice: If you plan on running tyres wider than 35mm, the RX40 is the clear winner. The 25.5mm internal width provides a much better tyre shape than the 21mm RD40.
Rim Interface: Note that the RX40 is Hookless. This means you must ensure your tyres are "Tubeless Ready" and compatible with hookless rims, even if you plan to run inner tubes.
Terrain: The RX40 is Hope's "Go Anywhere" wheel. If your riding includes singletrack, rocky descents, or heavy luggage, the extra width and reinforced hookless bead of the RX40 make it the more durable long-term investment.

Advanced Carbon & Hub Tech

Hookless Rim Design: The RX40 moves to a modern hookless (straight-side) profile. This construction is inherently stronger at the rim edge and lighter, helping Hope achieve a lighter wheelset than the narrower RD40 while being tougher.
Pro 5 Hubset: Features the latest 6-pawl offset design with 108 points of engagement. This provides nearly instant power transfer, which is critical for technical climbing and punchy accelerations on loose gravel.
Aerodynamic Edge: Despite being a rugged gravel wheel, the 40mm depth provides an aerodynamic benefit on paved transfer sections and fast fire roads without sacrificing stability in crosswinds.
Hand-Built Longevity: Every wheel is laced with Sapim CX-Ray bladed spokes and brass nipples. Because they are made in the UK, every single spare part—from pawls to rim stickers—is easily available for long-term servicing.
