The Hope R22 104BCD is designed for riders who prefer the modularity of a 4-bolt spider. It replaces the previous "Narrow-Wide" model with the new R22 profile, developed to handle the tighter tolerances of modern 12-speed chains while remaining fully backwards-compatible with 10- and 11-speed systems.

The R22 Evolution

The "R22" designation refers to the revised tooth shape, which features asymmetrical loading faces. This design helps the chain "seat" more quickly and securely, reducing the risk of dropping in rough terrain without the need for a heavy chainguide. It is particularly effective at shedding mud, making it a favourite for UK winter riding.

The Hope R22 104BCD Chainring is the versatile, high-performance solution for riders using traditional 4-bolt cranksets. While much of Hope's range has shifted towards direct-mount systems, the R22 104BCD ensures that those with classic cranks can still benefit from Hope's latest R22 tooth technology, offering world-class chain retention and a significantly longer lifespan than standard alloy rings.

THE DETAIL

  • Universal 104BCD Fitment: Compatible with any crankset using the standard 104mm Bolt Circle Diameter (BCD).

  • Advanced R22 Profile: Optimized for the latest 12-speed chains from Shimano and SRAM (including Eagle), but works perfectly with 10 and 11-speed setups.

  • Superior Mud Clearance: CNC-machined "finishing" on the base of the teeth helps eject grit and grime, extending the life of both the ring and your chain.

  • 7075-T6 Construction: Machined from a single plate of high-strength aluminium for maximum stiffness and wear resistance

  • Anodised Aesthetic: Available in Hope’s signature range of six colours to perfectly match your cockpit or hubs.

When fitting a 32T 104BCD ring, please note that because the diameter is so small, the bolts must sit very close to the chain. Hope integrates threaded spacers into the 32T version to provide the necessary clearance for the chain to sit fully on the teeth without hitting the spider arms.
