The EXT ERA V2.1 is the pinnacle of single-crown fork technology, bringing World Rally Championship (WRC) engineering to the mountain bike world. It is a boutique alternative to the Fox 38 or RockShox Zeb, uniquely using a hybrid coil-and-air spring system to provide the stiction-free start of a coil with the tunable ramp-up of air.
The "2.1" update focuses on refined internal friction, a lighter rebound tune, and an updated floating axle system for perfect lower-leg alignment.
The ERA V2.1 is built around the HS3 (Hybrid Spring System). While most forks use a single positive air chamber, the ERA uses two (+ and ++) plus an integrated coil negative spring. This allows you to run a lower main pressure for incredible small-bump "flutter" sensitivity while using the second chamber to create a rock-solid mid-stroke that prevents the fork from diving under heavy braking or on steep chutes.
EXT uses a unique Thixomolding process for the magnesium lowers, resulting in a denser, higher-strength material than standard casting. This is paired with an anti-creak crown design featuring a 5cm steerer-to-crown interface (compared to the industry standard of 3cm), making it one of the stiffest 36mm forks ever tested.
HS3 Hybrid Spring: Two adjustable positive chambers (+ and ++) combined with a high-volume self-activating negative chamber and a coil spring for zero stiction.
RLP (Radial Lubrication Pocket): Specialized DU bushings with internal "dimples" that trap oil against the stanchion, ensuring the fork stays smooth even under massive side-loading.
HDRV Damper: High Dynamic Response Valve with two separate shim stacks for mid and high speed, ensuring the fork reacts instantly to square-edge hits.
Floating Axle: Decouples the hub width from the fork alignment, ensuring the legs remain perfectly parallel for minimal friction.
The Brake Match: Because the ERA is exceptionally stiff, it pairs perfectly with high-power brakes like the Hope GR4 bundle and 220mm rotors. The fork's mid-stroke support means it won't "nose-dive" even under the massive deceleration of the Magura system.
Setup Tip: Start with the "++" chamber at approximately 1.5x the pressure of the "+" chamber. This is the "sweet spot" that gives the ERA its legendary "hovercraft" feel over roots and rocks.
Maintenance: Every ERA is hand-assembled with EXT proprietary oil. To maintain the "WRC feel," we recommend a lowers service every 50 hours using only EXT-specified lubricants.
