Schwalbe Tacky Chan Gravity Pro Radial Tyre
The Tacky Chan Gravity Pro Radial is explicitly engineered for the pure gravity, enduro, and full-power e-MTB racer. While the older, diagonal-casing version was known as a polarizing, "edgy" tyre that required extreme commitment to hook up, this next-generation radial variant features a revised, tighter 2-2 block pattern across the crown. The reduced dead-zone gap between the centre and shoulder knobs ensures a beautifully seamless, predictable transition as you lean the bike hard into berms.
The headline story is the Radial Carcass. Traditional bicycle tyres weave casing threads at a 45-degree diagonal angle, making the tyre stiff under deflection. Schwalbe's radial layout weaves the threads at a much wider, obtuse angle. This allows the tyre to deform vertically over rocks and roots rather than bouncing off them, resulting in an estimated 30% increase in tyre contact area at identical air pressures. Paired with the newly updated Addix Ultra Soft compound—which delivers an incredible 50% more damping to completely deaden trail vibrations—this tyre acts as an extension of your bike's suspension.
Because the radial casing is inherently far more flexible and adaptive than standard tyres, you must change how you manage your tyre pressures. If you set the Tacky Chan Radial to your standard diagonal tyre pressure, it may feel overly soft or vague when pushed hard into a berm.
The Pressure Rule: Most riders find they need to run 1 to 2 PSI higher than their usual baseline to give the radial casing enough pneumatic structure to prevent sidewall folding under heavy G-outs.
The Payoff: Even at a slightly higher pressure, the tyre still achieves a significantly larger footprint and superior compliance over rough track chatter compared to a standard tyre run at lower pressures.
Ideal Placement: The Tacky Chan excels as a hyper-fast, highly precise front and rear combination for dry-to-mixed bike park laps. If you frequently ride deep, greasy winter mud, pairing a classic Magic Mary Radial up front with the Tacky Chan Radial on the rear creates the ultimate year-round high-traction setup.
Radial Casing Flex: Allows the tyre to deform selectively around sharp edges rather than deflecting, resulting in immense mechanical grip and vastly reduced rider fatigue.
Redesigned 2-2 Tread Layout: Features long, aggressive braking edges that allow riders to confidently slam on the anchors much later into corners.
10% More Stable Shoulders: The heavily reinforced, L-shaped side knobs are significantly stiffer than those on the Magic Mary, preventing knob-squirm when carving high-speed hardpack tracks.
Next-Gen Ultra Soft Compound: Re-engineered for maximum adherence in freezing or soaking wet conditions, ensuring the rubber remains supple and sticky rather than hardening up.
